Ulew Tinimit [oo-lay-oo tinimit] is a K´iche phrase
meaning "the Land of the people". The primary focus of the Center, which
is located in Quetzaltenango/Xela, is the teaching of Spanish as a second
language. Mayan languages are also taught.
Additionally, our community projects support local
development at many different levels and allow our students to interact
directly with Guatemalan culture. Ulew Tinimit was
founded in l992 with the vision of contributing to the development of
our country through our own efforts and in collaboration with the participants
in our programs.
All profits go towards the school and community development
projects. Students and volunteers who participate build the foundation
of our work and help us establish social peace. The Center offers intensive
Spanish language classes at all levels from beginner to advanced.
All of our trainers have a professional background
and are university educated with a wide range of specialties, such as
education, economics, social work and politics. The teaching is personalized:
for each student one trainer - which allows the pace and the material
studied to be tailored to the needs of each student. For those who are
